The Sunflower
In December 2012, the Sunflower Public House opened its doors at the intersection of Kent Street and Union Street, a location with a century-long history of housing public houses. Nestled just behind the Belfast Central Library and within a stone's throw (a familiar unit of measurement in Belfast) of prominent institutions like The Belfast Telegraph, The Irish News, and the University of Ulster, Sunflower is a modest corner pub. Its distinctive feature is the security cage adorning its front door, a remnant from 1980s Belfast. Although no longer necessary for security purposes, the cage has been retained and preserved, serving as a tangible piece of the city's social history.
After my first experience at the Sunflower I knew instantly to make a post on it. This pub had so many reasons as to why you should visit it from the amazing food to the welcoming and friendly staff. It was recently that I came across the Sunflower after hearing raving reviews. The sunflower was easy to notice with its unique yet intriguing cage outside the front of the pub. When walking through this cage it felt as though it transported you back 30 years with the inside having a very traditional feel with traditional Irish Music playing.
In terms of pints from the sunflower I felt as though there was a great selection including Erdinger and Beamish on draft. I opted for a pint of Erdinger which was the perfect pint to have with their lovely Pizza. In terms of prices for the drinks I found these very reasonable two pints of Erdinger came to under £10 as well as the Pizza £10 also. As inside may be seen as small I felt as though this was perfect as it gave a very cosy feel but to help this there was a large beer garden so if you where to come with a number of friends of family there is still plenty of room to accommodate.
